Today at work we had an email banter between my boss and 2 other assistants.
I thought it was funny and light until I overheard my boss slightly distraught about it.
Here is how it went down:
First email from Asst. 1:
Furniture repair will be here tomorrow
2nd email from boss:
Do they fix pants that have been destroyed by death point chairs?
3rd email from Asst. 1:
No, but I'm sure your asst. (me) can help you with that. ;)
4th email from me:
I'll let asst. 2 handle that as she is more experienced.
5th email from boss:
JUST A JOKE. I have had multiple pairs of pants destroyed from getting caught on chairs. I have learned to maneuver.
(I'm thinking...we all knew you were joking- we are joking back)
6th email from asst. 2:
Oh come on I had the needle and glasses out ready to mend. It wouldn't hurt that bad.
7th email from me:
Sew them shut.
8th email from asst. 2:
His mouth or his pockets?
In the mean time I am over hearing my boss talk to the VP about this banter- that he is not liking it. They kept saying something like "a little TOO literal"
WAS IT ME? WAS IT WHAT I WROTE? Oh CRAP! I have no idea how this turned into a misinterpretation.
Final email from me:
(with the intention to straighten out that I was JOKING)
I can't think of any thing funny. Good banter though.
Now there is a twinge of awkward. I'm just going to pretend I have NO idea they are uncomfortable with it. I just am so curious if it was me who was being "too literal"?!
